Getting started
If you provide financial services, you need to be registered on the Financial Service Providers Register. For some services you might also need to be licensed – either by the Financial Markets Authority or by the Reserve Bank.
You will have extra responsibilities if you are a reporting entity under the AML/CFT Act.
Registering as an entity
If you are registering as an entity, we will send you an additional information form to collect details about your business. You must complete and submit the form within 20 working days to complete your application.
Financial advisers
Financial advisers must be engaged by a licensed Financial Advice Provider (FAP). It is a 2-step process to record the engagement on the register.
- In step 1, either party can initiate the linking.
- In step 2, the other party must confirm or decline the engagement.
Financial advisers also need to meet certain duties and obligations, such as complying with the Code of Professional Conduct.
FSP annual confirmations
To remain registered, every year you must confirm your FSP's details and services with us.
Start by checking that your details are up to date. Then file your annual confirmation online.
